KRETINGOS MAISTAS maintains strong position in catering business
KRETINGOS MAISTAS, the leading food catering organization of the country, ended up with the 14 million Litas turnover in the last year, which meant a 41.1 percent increase in comparison with 2007 when the turnover was 9.9 million Litas. Currently the organization provides catering services to nearly 200 schools, kindergartens and other institutions which belong to 17 different municipalities of Lithuania.
"We think that this is a very positive result considering that presently we are the country market leader in public catering for educational institutions. What we have today is based on eight years of hard work and versatile experience as well as the successful investment into the professional training of our employees", sais the Chief Executive Officer of the organization Mr. Irmantas Norkus.
In 2008, the organization was announced the winner of three public catering tenders for catering at numerous schools in Skuodas, Kazlų Rūda and other towns. The tenders were organized by the Municipalities of Ukmergė, Plungė and Vilkaviškis.
According to Mr. Irmantas Norkus, in 2008 the expansion of the organization was placed in the center of attention. The strategy was successfully implemented, and consequently the organization started providing catering services to the schools and kindergartens in as many as 11 Lithuanian cities and towns.
"Currently the country is going through some tough economic times. The recession has affected the entire budget of the country, including the public catering sector. This is why more and more municipalities started realizing the advantages and the efficiency of centralized catering for educational institutions. The system we have created throughout the years in this business allows the State to minimize the expenses while still achieving the same great quality of public catering and the desirable return on investment", assures Mr. Norkus.
Last year the Public Enterprise KRETINGOS MAISTAS became the first ISO 9001-certified food catering organization. The compliance to the standards of this EU Quality Managing System guarantees the highest quality of the services.
Mr. Norkus says that another advantage of the organization is its legal form, which does not allow it to become a profit-oriented entity. "KRETINGOS MAISTAS is a public enterprise, which means that all our activities and cash flows are monitored by the State, and the profit is invested into the improvement of the quality of our services. In this business sector, where most of the clients are little children, quality is extremely important. Therefore we constantly invest into upgraded kitchen equipment and professional training for our employees", tells Mr. Norkus. According to him, this year the biggest share of the investment funds will also be put into new equipment and annual renovation of cafeterias.
Public Enterprise KRETINGOS MAISTAS has been in the public catering business since 2001. During the eight years of activity, the organization has catered for schools, kindergartens and hospitals of as many as 18 municipalities of the Republic of Lithuania. Currently the organization caters for nearly 200 educational institutions and other public catering objects. In 2008, the organization employed around 400 people.
